Default Password Expiry (Exclude root)

Our company recently applied Password expiry in our solaris servers as part of our security policy.

Is there any way that we can exclude the root user account's password from also expiring?

I know of this "passwd -x -1 root" but it is temporary.

We have Solaris 9.
