Default 2 simple Unix/OpenSolaris question

Hello,

I have a couple fairly simply questions to ask. I have some basic Knowledge of Unix.

1. I managed to install opensolaris as a Virtual Machine using Oracle VM virtualBox, but when I close the Open Solaris Machine and then return to it later, any files that I have saved to the desktop have gone! what could I be doing wrong? also any settings I change do not seem to persist either. I'm not sure if this is a problem with the VM or Open Solaris.

2. I'm attempting to run part of my companies software in OpenSolaris (I think it is designed for Solaris 10), but it usually runs fron the c shell. When I bring up a terminal in Open Solaris it goes straight to the bash shell. I thought the "lowest level" shell in Solaris was the c shell, hence I had a dig round to see if there was a (hidden) config file or setting in the home or route directories which set the shell to the bash shell, but I can't find anything. I can switch to the csh, but I then seem to loose enviroment settings, set the in .bschrc

If I get any of this working, my collegues will be green with envy :9 though it's proving an uphill battle!!!!

Thanks,
B.

This a definitely a VM problem, have you checked the "Special image write mode" settings for the virtualbox ?
I think that you've placed one or more of your VM's virtual hard disks into immutable mode? so any data that you write to them will be preserved while the Virtual Machine is running but will be lost on the reboot
read page 92 on the manual http://dlc.sun.com.edgesuite.net/vir...UserManual.pdf

You 2nd problem is tied to 1st one, you just need to change the shell from your environment settings

Hi Admin,

thanks, I think it had issues with the virtual hard drive, so I started over and now it works.
