Default failed upgrade snv_111 to snv_134 - how to purge packages

my (smallish, 5GB) root filesystem got full while attempting to upgrade OpenSolaris from snv_111 to snv_134 - how
I managed to "beadm destroy" the new BE, but noticed that did not reclaim all disksoace;
can someone suggest how to either
- get rid of all the xxx.134 packages
- perform the upgrade more incrementally (I seem to recall I had about 1.8GB free initially)
